Former French official: GIA was responsible for the killing of “Tibhirine” monks
Tibhrine monks

The French authorities are about to confirm the initial conclusion of the investigation carried out soon after the assassination of “Tibhirine” monks which, revealed that the heinous act was perpetrated by the Islamic Armed Group (GIA).

  •
  • Recently disclosed testimonies made by top French officials at that period, revealed that the allegations that Algerian authorities were involved in this act were baseless, putting forward the report issued by the French ambassador to Algiers Hubert Colin Deverdiere who was in charge of supervising the crisis cell set in the Quai d’Orsay at that period.
  •
  • Deverdiere has confirmed that theory of a terrorist act perpetrated by the former terrorist organization GIA, that kidnapped the seven monks in March 1996 to be killed days after.
  •
  •  This testimony destroys the allegations launched by the former military attaché of the French embassy in Algiers Francois Buckwalder, who openly accused the Algerian authorities of masterminding the operation.
  •
  • The former chief of protocols at the French foreign ministry, Hervey  De Charette, has declared to the judge that all the elements converge towards the theory that the main perpetrators of the act was the Islamic Armed Group (GIA).
  •
  • The French newspaper “Le Figaro” has reported that Colin Deverdiere confirmed the theory since a GIA envoy called Abdelah moved to the French embassy in Algiers to deliver the Group’s message that claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of the monks.
